<abstract>
Celadon, one of the earliest types of glazed ceramics produced in ancient China, was traded during the Islamic period as a durable and highly valued commodity to western regions, including the Persian Gulf, through an extensive commercial network. This popular ware entered the northern ports of the Persian Gulf via the Maritime Silk Road and was subsequently distributed to the major economic and population centers of Iran. In addition to maritime ports such as Mahruyan, Sī-Nīz, Genaveh, Rishahr, Najiram, Siraf, and Harireh of Kish, the inland port of Bardestan, regarded as the first overland port, played a significant role in the maritime trade of the Persian Gulf and in the importation of various Chinese goods. This historical port is located approximately 5 km from the Persian Gulf coastline, in the region of Bandar Deyr, on the western bank of the perennial Bardestan River, where various types of Chinese ceramics have been identified. Archaeological evidence indicates that celadons were imported from ancient China to the historical port of Bardestan from the third to the eleventh centuries AH. Owing to their superior quality and widespread popularity, these wares subsequently began to be produced from the eighth century AH onward in several Iranian cities, including Kerman, Soltaniyeh, and Isfaha. This study introduces the various types of Chinese celadon unearthed from the historical port of Bardestan, including Yue celadon, Longquan celadon, white celadon, Dusun ware, martaban jars, Changsha ware, and blue-and-white ceramics. These cultural materials are comparatively analyzed alongside finds from other archaeological sites within the Persian Gulf basin, such as Siraf, Najiram, Mahruyan, and Harireh of Kish. The results of this research will clarify the position of the historical port of Bardestan within both the intra-regional maritime trade network of the Persian Gulf and the broader extra-regional trade system extending across the Indian Ocean to East Asia (ancient China). The historical port of Bardestan, alongside other historical ports of the Persian Gulf, played an important and influential role in the Maritime Silk Road and functioned as a gateway for the introduction of Chinese goods, including celadon, into the markets of Iran.
</abstract>
